From the lab: Preparing for flu season

Order pathogen tests individually; we’re working on combo test

Salem Health Laboratories is pleased to provide your seasonal influenza and respiratory pathogen testing. We recognize the need for combination testing for multiple respiratory diseases this season due to seasonal flu showing similar symptoms as COVID-19. 

This is a courtesy reminder to continue ordering all respiratory pathogen testing individually until combination testing is available to include COVID-19.  Single sample collections remain acceptable, and there is no need to collect multiple samples.

While we continue expanding and forecasting capacity Salem Health Laboratories requests that clinicians appropriately order testing following established guidelines to preserve availability for all essential patients that require testing.

We will continue to communicate as flu season progresses and combination testing becomes available.
