24 May 2020

Learn the many improvements in store

By: Hannah Bauer, facilities development project consultant

What improvements can we expect?

  • Emergency department parking: Convert first floor of garage to emergency department parking. Access will be through the ED driveway when complete.
  • New entrance: Ramp from Capitol Street to the second floor of garage for nonemergency patient and employee parking.
  • New exit: Move garage exit north on Capitol Street to ease congestion.
  • Increase width of exit to make left turns out of the garage easier.
  • Steel bracing around the outside of the structure.

How long will this take?

Construction begins June 1 with completion expected in September 2021.

What will happen to the garage during construction?

  • Patients and employees can still park there during construction.
  • Signs, flaggers, and barriers will help drivers safely navigate the garage.
  • The parking garage is still the primary self-park option for patients coming to campus.
    • Patients of Building C clinics and surgery patients may use the free valet service in the Building C garage on Winter Street.
    • Emergency Department patients (and laboring mothers after 9 p.m.) may use the free valet service in the Oak Street turnaround.

Are we adding parking spaces?

No. We have sufficient parking to meet both current and future parking needs.
