In the first eight days of Salem Health’s newly expanded Emergency Department, we’ve cut the average wait time for all patients in half — and decreased the average time a patients spends in the ED by 60 minutes.

We officially opened the expansion on Thursday, Feb. 15 at 0600. In the first 11 days, we’ve seen more than 1,300 patients in the new space and workflow. Results have exceeded our initial expectations. The new workflow is proving to be a very wise investment — and, more importantly, the significant gift to our community we had intended.

The ED would like to extend its genuine appreciation to the diverse team that helped make this dream a reality. That team includes YOU! Every single provider, employee, leader and supporter of Salem Health has impacted our work. Even if you do not touch the ED directly, your co-worker or leadership does and the support you give to them extends to us.

There is a village of executives, designers, project managers, Kaizen team members, engineers, construction personnel, patient experience team members, supply chain staff, volunteers, marketing staff and more who have supported and guided us through this process and continue to remain at our side. None of this would have been possible without every single one of you. Thank you!
