Nicole M. Vanderheyden, MD, PhD, DVM, FACS, director of trauma, acute care surgery and surgical critical care at Salem Health, participated as an invited panelist at the American College of Surgeons 2016 Clinical Congress in Washington, DC.  Dr. Vanderheyden's expertise in establishing and growing a trauma and acute care surgical service was the draw that garnered her a seat on the dias for a discussion of "Who's on Call:  Surgical Workforce Needs for the Next 25 Years".

Dr. Vanderheyden led a lively and energetic discussion.  As a thought leader recognized by her peers for her vision and success in implementing a leading edge program that addresses many evolving surgical workforce needs, Dr. Vanderheyden is achieving the quadruple aim - improving quality, controlling costs, enhancing patient satisfaction and maximizing physician engagement.  Dr. Vanderheyden's hard work and national recognition reflects great credit upon herself, the TRACS team, Salem Health Medical Group and Salem Hospital.
