National Doctors’ Day is observed annually on March 30. The idea came from Eudora Brown Almond, the wife of Dr. Charles B. Almond. The chosen date commemorates the anniversary of the first use of general anesthesia for surgery, which consisted of using ether gas for a patient in Georgia on March 30, 1842.
National Doctors’ Day became official law in the U.S. when President George H. W. Bush signed a bill formalizing the day in 1990. Today, many countries around the world have officially designated a day every year when physicians are honored for their hard work and dedication to patient care.
This year, Salem Health and the Medical Executive Committees would like to take this opportunity to express our deepest gratitude and appreciation to the nearly 1,000 providers for your unwavering dedication, expertise, and compassionate care you provide our patients and community each day. You have sacrificed long hours of education and training to become integral stewards of healthcare.
Despite the challenges we face, especially during a global pandemic, your resilience and perseverance inspire us all. Your ability to adapt, innovate and collaborate under pressure exemplifies the true spirit of teamwork and professionalism. In a profession where the demands are high and the stakes are even higher, your commitment to excellence shines through in every interaction, diagnosis and treatment delivery.
As members of our Medical Executive Committees, we are privileged to work with such talented and dedicated professionals.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to each and every one of you for your outstanding service and contributions to our medical community. Today, and every day, we celebrate you and the invaluable impact you make on the lives of others.
Happy Doctors’ Day!
Sincerely,
Salem Hospital Medical Executive Committee
