COVID-19 Testing for Medical Providers

Employee Health and Laboratory Services have partnered with the Medical Staff Office to provide COVID-19 testing for medical providers in our community. Depending on the circumstance, testing will utilize a send out test via Salem Health’s regional lab or a rapid test at West Valley Hospital in Dallas, Oregon. COVID-19 testing requires a clinician order. Salem Health Urgent Care is seeing providers in virtual visits to facilitate access to testing by providing this order. Alternately, test orders can be written by your primary care provider.

For medical providers that need testing, two pathways exist (See tip sheet here):

  1.  For symptomatic individuals and asymptomatic individuals with a high-risk exposure and the inability to self-isolate while awaiting test results, an order and the medical provider must go to West Valley Hospital in Dallas, Oregon for testing using the Abbott ID Now, with same day results. Order “LAB3234A and enter COVID by Abbott ID NOW”.
  2. Routine asymptomatic testing is also available through a send out test to a reference lab.  An order and the medical provider can go to either Salem Health Regional Lab on State Street in Salem or West Valley Hospital in Dallas, Oregon for routine testing. The turnaround time is usually in 4 to 5 days. Order “LAB4144.”
