COVID-19: Ask Governor to protect medical professionals

10 May 2020

Sample letter to urge action, protect your practice

By: Michael Gay, government and community relations manager

As the coronavirus pandemic continues, healthcare professionals on the front lines in our state have been forced to change the way they deliver patient care.

Across Oregon, medical providers and facilities must shift limited resources to address immediate needs.  Increasingly, these providers and facilities must make tough decisions and change normal protocols to respond to the crisis. These changes in healthcare delivery, partially resulting from recently enacted executive orders, dramatically escalate the threat of litigation against those who are bravely working to help Oregonians in need. The Governor should take immediate action to protect healthcare professionals and facilities in the state so that those on the front lines of the COVID-19 outbreak can make decisions that are in the best interest of our community without the fear of future unwarranted lawsuits.
