Salem Hospital continues to focus on quality improvement initiatives to lower our Catheter Associated Urinary Tract Infection (CAUTI) rate. We’ve made changes in the system to address the issue:
To prevent false positives, a “Urinalysis Reflex to Culture” order panel began several months ago. It recommends an additional order to remove a catheter that has been in place more than seven days prior to specimen collection.
Since this order panel began, Infection Prevention has continued to see a large volume of alternate urinalysis orders placed, including several that do not reflex to culture.
To ensure providers get accurate and complete results, starting Monday, Sept. 9, inpatient providers (excluding Pediatric and NICU) will only see the “Urinalysis Reflex to Culture” order panel when searching for “urinalysis” or “UA.”
