Celebrate American Heart Month at Salem Health

Salem Health has planned the following to celebrate heart month, with special thanks to the Salem Health Foundation. Please share this with your patients – there’s something for everyone, including you.

Wear Red Day — Friday, Feb. 7
Kick off the month in red. Booties will be available for providers and staff in the emergency department, catheterization lab, cardiovascular care unit, and cardiovascular non-invasive services.

Free health screenings — Tuesday, Feb. 11–13
6:30 to 10 a.m. at CHEC

Tell your heart patients the Mended Hearts support will be at the CHEC at 8:30 a.m. Free health screenings start at 6:30 a.m.: cholesterol, blood sugar, blood pressure, height and weight. Remember to fast for 12 hours before cholesterol testing. Providers may drop in; tell your patients they can call 503-814-2435 (CHEC) for 15-minute appointments.

Talk with a Doc: Living Healthy With Gadgets — Thursday, Feb. 13
Noon to 1 p.m. in Building D

Kaiser Permanente cardiologist Priya Kansal, MD, will share how to lead a heart-healthy lifestyle – and how fitness gadgets help. Building D, first floor, Creekside Overflow.

KYKN radio tips (all at 12:45 p.m.)

Feb. 3 — Gabe Gaertner will share how some patients get off blood thinners through the WATCHMAN implant.

Feb. 6 — Andy Walker will explain heart medications.
Feb. 21 – Dan Voy on his amazing journey after quintuple bypass and how Mended Hearts made a huge difference.

Heart-healthy meal planning — Feb. 19 and 26
6 to 8 p.m. in CHEC Wellness Kitchen
