Help grads build strong relationships, deliver collaborative care

By: Anna Harris, RN, professional development specialist

You’re invited to participate as a panelist to help new graduate Registered Nurses (RNs) during their residency programs. This session will focus on effective communication between nurses and providers — an essential topic for fostering strong collaboration and patient care.

Feedback from our new graduates, along with supporting evidence (Forbes & Evans, 2022), indicates that training on communication with providers is an area where many new nurses feel underprepared.

Our new grads are eager to build strong relationships with providers. While communication is covered in our Residency program, questions arise regarding provider preferences, best communication practices and expectations for structured tools like SBAR. Your insights are invaluable!

Key details:

  • Purpose: Share your experiences and perspectives to help new nurses become effective communicators and strengthen nurse/provider interactions.
  • Panel format: The session will include both a discussion and Q&A segment, encouraging an open and engaging dialogue. While we will provide prompts to guide your contributions, we welcome any additional insights you wish to share.
  • Commitment: We are seeking panelists for our new grad Residency cohorts on the following dates, from 3:15 to 4:30 p.m.:
    • Feb. 27
    • April 24
    • July 31
    • Aug. 28
    • Sept. 25
    • Oct. 23

You are welcome to participate in one or more panels. We hope to have three to four providers at each cohort’s one-hour session.

Interested? Contact Anna.Harris@salemhealth.org and let us know so we can put your name on a list. We’ll reach out to you as soon as we have more confirmed details.

Thank you for considering this opportunity to grow and support our newest nurses. Your contributions can make a lasting impact and set our new grads up for success!
