By: Jenny Clow, MBA, MLS(ASCP)CM SCCM, Manager, Laboratory Services

Salem Health Laboratories is updating the blood culture order to streamline the process at all sites. Starting Monday, Oct. 5, the blood culture order will default to a peripheral venous collection.  Previously, clinicians were required to answer hard-stop questions to make these selections.

Change details

  • All hard stops have been removed from the blood culture order.
  • Blood culture orders will default to a peripheral venous collection, which represents 98% of orders placed at Salem Hospital.
  • For other collection options, clinicians can select the appropriate boxes for collection technique and specimen source.
