The Salem Health peer support team launched on May 1, 2018 and comprises dedicated physicians, nurses and hospital staff. Team members volunteer to help their peers who are coping with the aftermath of adverse events experienced in the workplace. The service is available 24/7 for any employee or medical staff member who would like to receive confidential peer support by calling the  hotline at 503-814-PEER (4-7337).

Team members have been trained in crisis support and stress management. Volunteers serve as the provider or staff person on call for one week per quarter. In the program’s first four months of operation, the team has responded to five self-referral calls and made 34 wellness outreaches to providers or staff members impacted by adverse patient events on campus.

We are seeking to add new physicians and clinical staff to the team! If you are interested, please email Elaine Navarro by Oct. 1 to be included in the next training opportunity.
