Anesthesiology update

08 May 2021

By: Matthew Boles, MD, executive vice president of surgical services and medical affairs

I want to begin by expressing my sincerest gratitude to our local anesthesiologists. As previously mentioned, they have committed to cover our critical call shifts to ensure that essential services are maintained, such as trauma and obstetric coverage. In addition, they have gone above and beyond to help cover most of our regularly scheduled procedures. To ensure our community has access to the care they need, Salem Health has supplemented the coverage with traveling locums anesthesiologists. These locums providers will stay at Salem Health to prevent any interruption in anesthesia coverage as we build the employed anesthesiology model. This model, which will include CRNAs, is currently being developed with the valuable input of our anesthesiologists, medical staff and surgical services team. These groups have also created metrics to ensure quality and safety are maintained during the transition. Again, please join me in giving thanks and appreciation to our local anesthesiologists for their continued commitment to our community.
