There seems to be a new article every day about what health care will look like under the new president. A point of confusion for some is the distinction between the ACA (Affordable Care Act) and the MACRA (Medical Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act) legislation.

MACRA is the new program approved overwhelmingly in a bipartisan way to replace the failed SGR (Sustainable Growth Rate) program. For more information, Salem Health is participating in a panel discussion organized by the Marion-Polk County Medical Society. Read the flier for more information. The volume to value shift is here to stay.

Something else is very clear. More money won’t be added to the health care pot. We are well-positioned to continue using our Lean management system to improve efficiency, doing more with less waste. In this effort, everyone’s support will be required. New quality improvement strategies, innovative physician partnerships, and an exploration of multidisciplinary and system wide data analysis will all be key components as we continue to refine a culture where practitioners feel overwhelmed.

Let’s continue the dialogue. Let me know your views and suggestions.
