A new way to think about pain relief

Direct patients who struggle with chronic pain to the Pain 101 course

By: Phil Haworth, manager of rehabilitation services

If you have patients who struggle with chronic pain, they may find an answer in Salem Health Rehabilitation Center’s Pain 101 class series and Pain University suite of services.

“Pain 101: Intro to Pain and Its Treatment” is a free, six-week class series that gives patients a chance to learn about — and try for themselves — a variety of evidence-based techniques for loosening pain’s grip on their lives. Led by a pain psychologist and a board-certified orthopedic physical therapist, patients explore yoga, tai chi, breathing exercises, sleep hygiene, goal setting, mindfulness and more.

After patients graduate from the Pain 101 class series, they are encouraged to continue making progress by signing up for ongoing Salem Health therapy programs, both referral- and community-based.

No provider referral is required for the initial Pain 101 series.

Please refer patients to salemhealth.org/pain101 for more information and to sign up.
