3D imaging starts Oct. 7 for PET/CT

What you need to know

By: Tish Gross, Salem Health Laboratories outreach supervisor

To reflect current best practices in our Nuclear Medicine Department, we’re updating the PET/CT imaging protocols.

We’re replacing our current 2D imaging techniques with 3D imaging acquisition techniques to improve overall quality and enable a dose reduction for both patients and staff.

This change will also provide an increase in data points collected per scan, subsequently enhancing sensitivity and lesion detectability.

It’s important to know we expect impact to the collected standardized uptake values (SUVs) once this starts on Monday, Oct. 7. This change is similar to what we expect between scans acquired at different facilities. We continue to work closely with our radiologist partners to provide the highest quality imaging possible.
