The Foundation Scholarship program began in 1968. The first grant was awarded to a Salem Hospital employee enrolled in the associate degree nursing program at Salem Vocational Tech, which is now known as Chemeketa Community College. To date, over $3M has been awarded to students pursuing careers in healthcare. Last year, the foundations awarded a total of $141,500 in scholarships to 77 students pursuing degrees in a variety of programs. Since 2010, the foundations have combined to invest $1.24 million in Marion and Polk Counties through scholarships.
The Salem Health and West Valley Foundations are committed to raising, managing and distributing funds to help the hospital achieve its mission of improving the health and well-being of the people and community it serves.
