Public invited for input on hospital review

Salem Hospital is applying for re-designation of its Magnet® status, a prestigious designation that recognizes clinical excellence.

The American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), sponsor of the Magnet Recognition Program®, will be at Salem Hospital June 1 through June 3 for a hospital review.

Salem Hospital was originally designated as a Magnet organization in 2010 by the ANCC and is one of only 7 percent of hospitals nationwide to receive this honor.

Community meetings

Salem Hospital has submitted information for the appraisers to review. During the on-site visit June 1 through 3, Magnet appraisers will talk with staff throughout the hospital and with patients.

If you would like to give your thoughts on Salem Hospital to Magnet surveyors, please attend a community meeting:

  • June 2 from 8:45 to 9:30 a.m. in Building B, Room B1-1
  • June 3 from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m., Building C, Room C

“Magnet designation is about what we do every day,” said Sarah Horn, Salem Health chief nursing officer. “It is about providing excellent patient care in an environment that focuses on continuous improvement and positive outcomes.”

“Achieving and maintaining Magnet status is not easy because the standards increase every year,” said Margo Halm, Salem Health director of nursing research, professional practice and Magnet. “We have 40 to 50 specialty practice teams focused on continually improving patient care. Efforts of teams throughout the hospital contribute to improving outcomes for our patients and that is what Magnet is really all about.”
