Free classes help balance your life

“Achieving Life’s Balance” is the focus for Salem Hospital’s Rehabilitation Week which runs from Monday, Sept. 16 through Friday, Sept. 20.

Three free classes taught by Regional Rehabilitation Center experts will provide tips for keeping balance in your life.

Psychologist Kate Morris will explain mindfulness and lead attendees in experiencing different mindfulness meditations. Her class, “Introduction to mindfulness meditation,” is on Wednesday, Sept. 18, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. and is limited to 12 participants.

“Successfully managing stress” is the topic Psychologist Steve Besing will explore on Wednesday, Sept. 18, from 6 to 7 p.m.  He will explain the stress response of the body and share how to recognize the body signals of stress and specific tools for managing stress.

On Thursday, Sept. 19, Physical Therapists Linda Ward, Cathy Kosboth, Kelley Clark, Erica Gandolfo and Desiree Atienza will provide individual balance and fall risk assessments and share tips on decreasing fall risks. Two classes will be offered: 6 to 7 p.m. and 7 to 8 p.m.
