Visitors to Salem Hospital, West Valley Hospital or Salem Health Medical Clinics will not be allowed if they have any of the following symptoms:

• Fever
• Sore throat
• Runny nose
• Cough
• Shortness of breath
• Body aches
  

Visitors will also be turned away if they have:

• Traveled internationally within the last 14 days to CDC Level 3 risk countries.
• Been diagnosed with COVID-19 or are being tested currently for the disease.
• Had contact with known or suspected COVID-19 cases within the last 14 days outside of a health care facility.
• Traveled on a cruise ship within the last 30 days.
• Been directed by a public health official to quarantine.

No more than one visitor a day may be allowed if visitor falls in one of the listed categories:

• A spouse, partner, or other support person to accompany a woman giving birth.
• Legal guardians or representatives if:
  • In-person visitation is necessary for legal reasons that cannot be delayed (including decision making for treatment by authorized surrogate decision maker)
• Support person or caregiver of patients undergoing surgery or procedures, patients who are seeking care in the Emergency Department,  or patients with altered mental status or intellectual disabilities if in-person visitation is necessary to:
  • Facilitate treatment and overcome barriers to care delivery
  • Ensure the safety of the patient or facility staff
• Patients who have an appointment at a Salem Health clinic, laboratory services, or radiology may have one support person present only if required for direct care assistance.
  

No more than two visitors a day may be allowed to visit for:

• Parent or guardian of pediatric hospitalized patients
• Family and close friends of patients who are at the end-of-life.  For the purposes of these guidelines, end-of-life is defined as anticipated in-hospital death as determined by the patient’s attending physician. 
• Family and close friends of post mortem patients, subject to safety and normal timeliness considerations
• See above for these categories re: COVID Pending or COVID Positive patients
  

Note that there is no requirement that the visitor must be the same person across different days, as long as the visitor fulfills the listed visitation inclusion/exclusion criteria

Approved visitors will be required to:

• Follow all safety procedures.
• Wear proper personal protective equipment like face masks.
• Follow hand-washing guidelines.
• Practice good respiratory hygiene, including using their elbow or a tissue to cover sneezes and coughs.

Those who do not follow instructions may lose visitation privileges.

People are encouraged to connect with their loved ones by using technology. Patients and visitors should consider a video visit with Skype, Zoom, FaceTime, etc. Send notes and well wishes with authorized visitors. Show your support on social media, or send a letter to their home for when they are discharged. No matter how you show your support, your thoughtfulness will be appreciated.
