Salem Health and OHSU: Better, together.

As of Nov. 16, Salem Health and Oregon Health & Science University have officially begun a new partnership.

As a patient, you can expect the same excellent staff and care. You won’t notice big differences at first other than a new name and logo—Salem Health, An OHSU Partner.

Over time, you can also expect a stronger connection to OHSU’s clinical expertise and advancements.

Health care changes rapidly, so this partnership will help us continue to offer the best and latest care. We’re building on the strengths of both institutions.

Be proud of your local hospital! Our partnership with OHSU is viewed as a national model that will deliver the best care as efficiently and affordably as possible, right here in our community.

Frequently asked questions

Q. Why is Salem Health affiliating with OHSU?

A. The way health care works in this country is changing. We believe this affiliation will better connect health care in the Salem-Portland corridor and, in turn, give you more value for your health care dollar.

It’s a chance for us to create a better system that has the size, resources, connections and experts to take it beyond what Salem Health or OHSU could do separately.

Q. How does this system change the health care experience for patients?

A. It’s too soon for specifics, but our hope is that people in our region will feel comfortable going to whichever facility is the most convenient or the most appropriate. Whether you are getting services in Salem, Portland, Dallas or any of the satellite clinics in the area, you’ll have the same great experience.

A good example is our existing partnership between the Salem Cancer Institute and the Knight Cancer Institute. Patients in Marion and Polk counties enter the system in Salem, have access to services in Portland (if needed) and will still be able to get follow-up care close to home.

Q. How does the affiliation affect your employees?

A. All Salem Health employees will maintain their employment relationship with Salem Health. All OHSU employees—faculty, staff and clinicians—will continue in their employment relationship with OHSU. One of the reasons we kept our two organizations as separate but affiliated entities was to preserve our current employment structure.

Q. I saw the Salem Health logo is changing to the same flame as OHSU’s logo. Why haven’t the signs changed on your buildings?

A. As you can imagine, there are literally thousands of signs, brochures, documents, uniforms and computer systems that have the old logo on them. We will be replacing them all gradually throughout 2016.
