Lung cancer screening for your patients
There have been recent changes to Salem Cancer Institute's Lung Cancer Screening Program regarding insurance billing and CMS requirements. The patient must meet specific criteria to be eligible for screening including:
  • Must be asymptomatic
  • Between the ages of 55-80 (Medicare covers 55-77)
  • ≥ 30 pack year smoking history. Average number of packs per day x number of years smoked
  • Active smoker or quit within the last 15 years
  •          Shared Decision Making appointments with primary care required for Medicare patients

The Lung Cancer Screening at Salem Cancer Institute was initiated in 2013 and has enrolled over 800 patients and diagnosed 13 lung cancers and various incidental cancers. Please contact 503-561-SCAN (7226) with any questions.
